How to Stop Massive Hemorrhage: Stop the Bleed/Civilian First Responder 4pm
November 16 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm$40
Ann Arbor Arms is pleased to welcome Josh Halka from the organization Trauma Ready Medical. This course is designed by the American College of Surgeons to teach everyday people how to prevent fatalities from hemorrhaging.
Organization: Trauma Ready Medical
We live in a world where terrorism, the dangerous impulses of unstable people, and natural disasters seem to becoming increasingly more frequent. Massive hemorrhage can result from any of these causes and even from everyday accidents. During any of these events, a delay in response can result in death. Just as the general public should learn CPR, they should also learn proper bleeding control techniques such as the use of direct pressure, dressings, and tourniquets.
Anyone at the scene of massive hemorrhage can act as an immediate responder and can prevent death within the golden minutes, the short period that determines whether someone lives or dies. The American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma in cooperation with the Committee on Tactical Casualty Care and other medical, government, and military agencies collaborated to bring forth the Stop the Bleed course, a course designed to teach everyday citizens with no medical background how to save lives.
Trauma Ready Medical was created by two trauma surgeons with the aim of turning inadvertent bystanders into civilian first responders, to give people the skills and knowledge to save a life within the golden minutes after a traumatic event and to bridge the gap between the event and the arrival of emergency medical services.
This course will teach students how to:
-Recognize life threatening bleeding
-Initial steps that should be taken once bleeding is identified
-Relevant anatomy pertinent to bleeding control
-Techniques to stop life threatening bleeding
-Components of a “Bleeding Control Kit”
-How to put together your own “Bleeding Control Kit”
The hands-on portion of the course utilizes realistic bleeding wound simulators and medical dopplers that allow students to both feel and hear when blood flow has ceased.
All the necessary equipment to stop life threatening bleeding will be available for purchase at the end of the course.
